I don’t consider CVS a particularly fun or surprising place, but earlier this week I had the happiest surprise greet me at the checkout line of our local CVS. That day I decided to look through Washingtonian Wedding’s latest issue while waiting in line at the counter. Low and behold I found a very familiar photo, one I captured last spring, right there in the pages of this magazine.

I captured this image at Mike & Meghan’s beautiful Dock 5, Washington DC wedding as a second photographer for my friend & incredible colleague, Sarah of Sarah Shank Photography. This is my second printed magazine feature, both coming from 2019 weddings I second shot.

To have any photo printed in a magazine is such a sweet honor but these featured photos are all the more precious because it came from a very special wedding season. 2018 had me drowning because I was in and out of the hospital and hen 2019 arrived I felt like a sinking ship praying for the tide to rise in my business again. So At the start of 2019’s wedding season, I was committed to asking for help & committed to asking fellow photographers if I could be of any help. I didn’t want to go into 2019’s wedding year alone so I set my eyes on being “a rising tide” that “raises all boats”. I was determined to be a friend championing the work, wedding days & the businesses of my fellow photographers. It seems fitting to be featured twice in print from last year’s wedding season under the peers & businesses that championed what felt like my 2019 “come back”. My wedding industry peers were the rising tide that helped get Ica Images to where it is in 2020. For that, I’m so immensely grateful.

Sarah, thank you for allowing me to serve & shoot alongside you. God knew I needed you in my life & I’m so thankful for your friendship. Thank you for having me be your right hand glad for this beautiful wedding. I’m proud that this image doesn’t represent me but instead represents two colleagues working as a team, championing the growth of each other’s photography businesses, while representing your beautiful brand & company, Sarah Shank Photography.
