A tutorial on how to create A LINK IN BIO page for Social Media

STOP USING LINK TREE IN YOUR BIO!

Create your own Links Page on your own website instead!

This post is for my friends on Tiktok who highly requested a tutorial on how to make a Link in Bio page for their websites. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial video on how I create a Link in Bio page on my website here on Squarespace.

Here are some of the CSS coding I use specifically on my Links page to make it more simple & look more appropriate as a social media Link in Bio like Linktree. Copy and paste the coding that is below.

//Full width button coding for SMALL buttons only//
.sqs-block-button-element--small {width: 270px !important;}

// INSTAGRAM LINK IN BIO no header & no footer coding// - **CHANGE COLLECTION ID to your own website’s HEADER ID & FOOTER ID by right clicking on your site, Inspect, and hover over the area of your Header & copy the #collection id from that section and inject it below into the code.

#collection-5ea79a0579dd71446ef519eb

.Header.Header--top,

#collection-5ea79a0579dd71446ef519eb .Header.Header--bottom,

#collection-5ea79a0579dd71446ef519eb .Footer {

  display: none;

}

WHY?

//EDITED: Added Feb 18, 2021 //

But why should you use your own website instead of Linktree? (First, full disclaimer: I can only speak on what I know of my own website services here on Squarespace and this is just a personal opinion.)

1. BROKEN LINKS - Linktree’s links often get broken and users are not aware when and if their links don’t work. As a business owner having a link that is reliable means no missed opportunities for visitors to see your website and hopefully become a customer or client of yours through their visit to your website.

2. “UNSAFE” WARNING TURNS PEOPLE AWAY - Numerous platforms like Tiktok ping all Linktree links as “unsafe” for users and that can deter potential customers/clients to not click on your link and you may lose credibility or trust in their eyes so they may take their business elsewhere.

3. FREE IS NOT FREE - Yes you can have a few account on Linktree but you are limited on what you can do as a user on a free account. Customization and analytics are important aspects of any website and in using a free account your costing yourself a stronger brand presence and costing yourself access to the analytics you want so that you can know what links are driving traffic to what parts of your website.

4. WHY PAY LINKTREE? If you already own a URL outright, you’re paying for space on the internet that you can make your very own without any limitations and with full access to your domain’s analytics (at least I hope you do are). Paying a third party site to provide what you might already be paying for might not be a cost effect investment in the long hall.

5. SEO - You want SEO on your side so you want every click of your Link In Bio to go towards your website’s interactions and not Linktree’s. And yes, “bounce rate” or the number of times people click on links that go outbound to a site outside of your URL may negatively impact your SEO ranking so people rely on Linktree to protect them from that negative impact of bounce rate. But you can turn off the SEO analytics on any singular page with simple adjustments like no index no follow and you won’t be detrimental impacted on your SEO ranking. Easy solution and so much reward.

6. DON’T PAY FOR MORE ANALYTIC especially if you have access to analytics on your own site - I can’t speak on what type of analytics are provided with either free or paid Linktree accounts so I’m limited in the ability to compare what I know with what they provide. But I do know that at least with Squarespace, I have full access to very specific analytics on my website (like links, website buttons, bounce rates, down to the specific visitor’s general location (by state & country) and if they are visiting via mobile device or a computer, the list goes on….). And in real-time, I can know exactly the success of what links bring in my clients and what links are providing the most interaction. At the end of the day, business websites & website analytics allow businesses to formulate marketing strategies, make real-time adjustments within their web present and also follow user trends for business growth. And within that same space and URL you can adjust in real-time as a response.

I’m a firm believer in working smarter not harder. I hope these tips and reasons to utilize the website building platforms you already use or encourage you to look into making website analytics a priority in your business.
